James Blum

James is a thoughtful and creative litigator and advisor who has helped guide high-profile individuals and corporate clients in a broad range of personal, employment, contractual, and regulatory matters.

James has counseled industry-leading corporate clients through government investigations, whistleblower actions, and multibillion-dollar commercial disputes.  He has also successfully represented clients in state and federal court proceedings and helped negotiate important resolutions to major disputes prior to litigation. He is committed to working with clients to understand their needs and objectives and to achieving favorable outcomes.

James’s representative matters include:

• Representing an international consumer-goods company in a multibillion-dollar contractual dispute.
• Representing a major financial institution in multiple, wide-ranging government investigations involving data use and data privacy.
• Representing major banks in SEC investigations regarding adherence to recordkeeping obligations.
• Representing a technology company in connection with an international investigation and providing advice in connection with changing domestic policy.
• Guiding high-profile individual clients through the discovery process and depositions.

James is also dedicated to defending civil rights and helping silenced voices tell their stories. He has represented victims of sexual violence, indigent defendants, and members of vulnerable communities.

Prior to joining Kaplan Martin, James was an associate at an elite litigation boutique in New York.  James received his J.D. from New York University School of Law, where he was Staff Editor for the Review of Law & Social Change and a Marden Moot Competition semifinalist. He received his B.A. in economics from the University of Michigan.
